Fullerton, CA (January 4, 2025) – A tragic small plane crash near Fullerton Airport on Thursday afternoon resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to 19 others. The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the 2300 block of Raymer Ave, according to officials.

Emergency responders from the Fullerton Fire Department were quick to arrive at the scene, where they provided care to those injured in the accident. Authorities identified the aircraft involved as a single-engine Van’s RV-10. Shortly after takeoff from Fullerton Airport, the pilot reported an emergency and attempted an immediate return to the runway. Tragically, the plane crashed into a commercial furniture building approximately 1,000 feet short of the airport and erupted into flames.

Both passengers aboard the plane, Huntington Beach resident Pascal Reid and his 16-year-old daughter Kelly, lost their lives. Kelly was remembered by her soccer team as a passionate and kind individual. The crash also injured 19 people, with 11 individuals hospitalized and eight treated at the scene. Building inspectors have since red-tagged the affected warehouse, prohibiting re-entry due to structural concerns.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased victims.

Plane Crashes in California

Small aircraft incidents, while less frequent than other forms of transportation accidents, often result in severe consequences due to the nature of aviation. California, home to a large number of private and public airports, experiences a notable share of small plane crashes annually. The proximity of airports to residential and commercial areas, such as Fullerton, increases the risk to both passengers and those on the ground.

Van’s RV-10, the model involved in this tragic event, is one of the more popular kit-built planes, with approximately 11,000 units in operation worldwide. Although these planes undergo Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspections upon completion, accidents can occur due to mechanical failures, pilot error, or unforeseen circumstances. The NTSB will continue to investigate the cause of Thursday’s crash to determine the contributing factors.

Victims and their families often face emotional and financial challenges in the aftermath of plane crashes. Those impacted by such incidents are encouraged to seek support from legal and medical professionals to address the aftermath and navigate the complexities of aviation-related claims.
