Fresno County, CA (January 18, 2025) – A tragic collision involving a wrong-way driver claimed the lives of Mark Villalvazo and Julio Mendez on Highway 33 in Fresno County on Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred when Villalvazo, driving a Lexus northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 33 at a high rate of speed, collided head-on with a Honda sedan driven by Mendez. Both individuals sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency crews arrived to secure the area and investigate the circumstances of the collision. Highway 33 was closed temporarily to allow authorities to clear the wreckage and gather evidence. Officials are continuing their investigation to determine what led to Villalvazo traveling in the wrong direction.
