Freeport, IL (November 11, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision claimed the life of a 35-year-old Freeport man late Sunday night. The crash occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Illinois Route 26 North at Winneshiek Road, according to the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities report that a 2005 Dodge Neon was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Route 26 when it collided with a semi-truck driven by a 60-year-old man from Wisconsin. The driver of the Dodge Neon, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semi-truck driver was uninjured. The identity of the deceased driver is being withheld until family members are notified.
The crash is under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
