Frederick, MD (November 18, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred Friday morning on eastbound U.S. 340 near the Jefferson Pike exit, resulting in one fatality and another individual sustaining injuries. Maryland State Police confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 7:32 AM.

According to police reports, Kimberly Grace Linebaugh, 23, of Walkersville, was driving on eastbound U.S. 340 when her vehicle was struck head-on by a westbound 2010 Nissan Frontier driven by Mary Gieseman, 25. For reasons still under investigation, Gieseman reportedly lost control of her vehicle, crossing the grass median and entering the eastbound lanes.

Linebaugh was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders from the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services. Gieseman sustained injuries and was transported to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown for medical treatment. Her condition has not been disclosed. A third individual, Abigail Stone, 45, who was also traveling eastbound, was not injured in the crash but her vehicle was struck by debris from the collision.

The crash caused significant delays on U.S. 340 as authorities worked to manage the scene and begin their investigation. The Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the factors that caused Gieseman to lose control of her vehicle.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Kimberly Linebaugh during this difficult time, and we extend our best wishes for a full recovery to Mary Gieseman.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Maryland

Multi-vehicle accidents, such as the one on U.S. 340, are often catastrophic, leading to severe injuries or fatalities. Incidents involving vehicles crossing medians are particularly dangerous due to the high likelihood of head-on collisions, which can have devastating consequences.

Factors such as speeding, distraction, or weather conditions can contribute to such crashes, though investigations are required to determine the exact cause. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, especially on high-speed roadways like U.S. 340, to minimize the risk of accidents.

Victims and their families impacted by fatal crashes may face immense emotional and financial challenges, including medical bills, funeral expenses, and navigating insurance claims. Understanding legal options is critical to ensuring justice and support during such difficult times.
