Franklinton, LA (December 16, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on LA Hwy 25 near Stafford Rd in Washington Parish on December 15, 2024, claiming the lives of three individuals and leaving three others critically injured. The Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop L responded to the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m., where they discovered the devastating aftermath of the collision.
The crash involved a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 42-year-old Tequilla Santee of Covington, and a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 18-year-old Logan Schmalz of Franklinton. Preliminary investigations revealed that the Silverado, for reasons still under investigation, crossed the centerline and struck the Tahoe head-on in the southbound lane.
Sadly, Santee was pronounced dead at the scene, despite being properly restrained. Two passengers in the Tahoe, 11-year-old Daniya Carter and 3-year-old Dylan Wilson, who were unrestrained, were also pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the Tahoe, one properly restrained and one unrestrained, were critically injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Schmalz, who was properly restrained, was also critically injured and taken to a hospital for medical care.
Routine toxicology samples have been obtained from both drivers, and the crash remains under investigation. Troopers will forward their findings to the 22nd Judicial District Court District Attorney’s office for review of potential criminal charges or traffic violations once the investigation is completed.
