Franklin, MO (September 27, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred on Westbound Interstate 44 at Mile Marker 250.2 at approximately 2:32 PM. The incident involved multiple vehicles and resulted in significant injuries to several pedestrians.
According to the investigation, a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 27-year-old Chase A. Manhalter from Rolla, lost control while traveling in lane one, attempting to slow for traffic congestion. The Silverado collided with a parked 2007 Dodge Ram and a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, which were stopped on the right shoulder as their occupants were changing a tire. The force of the impact caused the Dodge Ram to strike four pedestrians—Da’Vontay D. Lott (29), Lavar C. Tolliver (39), Johnathan T. Jones (46), and James E. Laney (60)—who were in the vicinity, pinning them against the Chevrolet Suburban.
Emergency responders from the Meramec Ambulance District arrived at the scene to provide immediate medical assistance. All four pedestrians sustained serious injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for further evaluation and treatment.
