Franklin County, MO (January 19, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision occurred Saturday evening on westbound Interstate 44 near the 253-mile marker, leaving one driver with minor injuries. The crash was reported at approximately 6:30 p.m. and was investigated by TPR. K. L. Gibson of Troop C.
The incident involved a 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 2020 International LT625 semi-truck. According to the investigation, both vehicles were traveling westbound when multiple vehicles ahead abruptly stopped due to a separate accident. The driver of the Dodge Ram applied brakes to avoid the crash, but the semi-truck collided with the rear of the Ram.
The Dodge Ram sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene, while the semi-truck incurred extensive damage and was towed by Big Boys Towing. The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 35-year-old male from Wildwood, MO, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Washington Hospital by Meramec EMS. The semi-truck driver, a 60-year-old male from South Beloit, IL, was uninjured. Both drivers were wearing their safety devices.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish him a quick recovery.
Rear-End Collisions on Missouri Highways
Rear-end collisions are a common type of accident on Missouri highways, particularly during traffic slowdowns caused by earlier crashes or road obstructions. Highways like I-44 often experience significant traffic volumes, and abrupt stops can increase the risk of such incidents.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) encourages drivers to maintain safe following distances and stay alert to changing traffic conditions. Commercial vehicle operators, in particular, must exercise caution due to the longer stopping distances required by semi-trucks.
Victims of rear-end collisions frequently face medical expenses, vehicle damage, and potential long-term effects from their injuries. Understanding their rights and seeking support can help them navigate the recovery process and secure necessary assistance.
