Franklin County, MO (February 10, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on Highway Y in Franklin County left both drivers with injuries on Sunday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:18 p.m. at 4824 Highway Y. According to the report, a 2012 Ford Escape driven by a 23-year-old woman from New Haven was traveling southbound on Highway Y when she attempted to make a left turn into a driveway. In doing so, she failed to yield to a northbound 2006 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 19-year-old man from Owensville. The front of the Jeep struck the front of the Ford Escape, causing the Escape to overturn.

Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene—Vehicle 1 by Owen’s Towing and Vehicle 2 by Patriots Towing. The drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, which likely mitigated the severity of their injuries.

The 19-year-old driver of the Jeep Cherokee was transported by the Washington Area Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital Washington with injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the Ford Escape was transported by private conveyance to the same hospital for treatment of injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

Our thoughts are with both injured individuals, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Failure-to-Yield Accidents in Missouri

Failure-to-yield accidents, such as the collision on Highway Y in Franklin County, are common on Missouri roadways and often lead to serious injuries or vehicle damage. These types of crashes typically occur when drivers misjudge the speed of oncoming traffic or attempt to make turns without ensuring the roadway is clear.

In this case, the southbound Ford Escape driver failed to yield while attempting to turn into a driveway, resulting in a collision that caused her vehicle to overturn. While both drivers sustained only minor injuries, the potential for more serious outcomes is high in failure-to-yield accidents, especially when vehicles are traveling at higher speeds.

Missouri drivers are reminded to exercise caution when making left-hand turns, especially on rural highways like Route Y, where vehicles may approach quickly. Defensive driving practices, such as slowing down when approaching intersections or driveways and double-checking for oncoming traffic, can significantly reduce the likelihood of these accidents.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a failure-to-yield accident in Missouri, it is essential to seek immediate medical attention. Consulting with legal professionals can also help you understand your rights and explore options for compensation, particularly if the crash resulted from another driver’s negligence.
