Franklin County, MO (November 24, 2024) – A devastating two-vehicle collision on the North Outer Rd near Marcus Dr resulted in one fatality and three serious injuries late Saturday night. The crash occurred at approximately 9:10 PM, involving a 2010 Mazda 3 and a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Emergency responders, including Union EMS, Meramec Ambulance, and St. Clair EMS, rushed to the scene to assist the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred when the driver of the Mazda 3, a 76-year-old male from St. Clair, MO, became inattentive and crossed the centerline of the roadway. The Mazda struck the Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by an 18-year-old female, head-on.
The impact caused both vehicles to spin and slide off the road. The Jeep collided with a guardrail, coming to rest on top of it, while the Mazda spun clockwise and stopped facing west. Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Vogelgesang Towing.
The 76-year-old driver of the Mazda sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at 10:05 PM while en route to Missouri Baptist Hospital Sullivan. The driver of the Jeep, as well as two juvenile passengers, aged 15 and 17, all from St. Clair, sustained serious injuries. They were transported to various hospitals, including Mercy Hospital Washington and Missouri Baptist Hospital Sullivan, for treatment.
