Foyil, OK (January 9, 2025) – A tragic accident occurred on Highway 28A near 4230 Rd on Monday, resulting in the death of a car driver after a collision with a school bus. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) confirmed the incident, which involved a Claremore-Sequoyah school bus carrying junior high girls’ basketball players.
Isaac Vanover of Jay, the driver of the car involved in the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The school bus, transporting 17 students aged 12 to 13, went partially off the road during the collision. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the students or staff onboard.
Emergency responders, including the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, Chelsea Police Department, and local fire crews, quickly arrived at the scene. OHP Lt. Colby Rohr stated, “The first thing we did was get the children off the bus.” While details about the speeds or prior accidents in the area remain unclear, the two-lane highway’s layout through a valley is being examined as part of the investigation.
