Fountain, CO (February 17, 2025) – A driver was struck and killed by a semi-truck early Sunday morning while stalled on the side of southbound I-25 near the Mesa Ridge Parkway exit (132).
According to the Colorado State Patrol, a Volvo semi-truck lost control and collided with the rear of a Dodge Ram that was stopped on the shoulder. The impact pushed the Dodge Ram southbound, striking the driver before continuing off the right side of the road. The driver remained on the shoulder following the crash.
An off-duty firefighter witnessed the collision and rushed to aid the victim. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported the driver to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.
Southbound I-25 was closed for more than five hours between Mesa Ridge Parkway and South Academy while troopers investigated the scene. Officials are still working to determine the cause of the semi-truck driver’s loss of control.
