Fort Worth, TX (November 11, 2024) – A three-car crash involving an intoxicated driver shut down portions of Highway 287 near Loop 820 early Monday morning. The accident occurred around 2:45 a.m. in a construction zone and left multiple people injured. The highway reopened around 7:15 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Fort Worth police reported that a dark SUV struck a temporary construction barrier on the southbound ramp of Highway 287. Construction workers stopped to assist when the vehicle was then struck by an Infiniti. The impact caused serious injuries to both occupants of the Infiniti, who required extrication from the vehicle. They were transported to a hospital and are expected to survive.
One construction worker, standing outside the vehicle at the time of the crash, was also hit but sustained non-serious injuries.
Authorities arrested the driver of the SUV at the scene on charges of DUI. Additionally, the driver of the Infiniti, who remains hospitalized, will face charges of intoxication assault upon release.
