According to Idaho State Police (ISP), 63-year-old Anne West of Pocatello was driving a 2007 Honda CR-V southbound in the northbound lanes of I-15 when she collided head-on with a 2024 Nissan Sentra. A 45-year-old woman from Grace, who was a passenger in Warner’s vehicle, sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders airlifted her via helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Authorities have not released her name or her current condition.
The crash led to a partial shutdown of I-15 for approximately four hours as first responders and investigators worked at the scene. ISP was assisted by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Bingham County Coroner’s Office, Blackfoot Fire Department, Bannock County Search and Rescue, and Fort Hall police, firefighters, and paramedics.

Wrong-Way Collisions in Idaho
Wrong-way crashes, although relatively rare, are among the deadliest types of accidents on Idaho’s highways. These incidents often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the high-impact nature of head-on collisions. Factors contributing to wrong-way driving can include impaired driving, confusion about roadway signage, or poor visibility.
This tragic accident highlights the critical importance of seatbelt use, as statistics show that proper restraint significantly reduces the likelihood of fatal outcomes in crashes. In this case, the injured passenger and the wrong-way driver were wearing seatbelts, while the driver of the Nissan Sentra was not.
Motorists can reduce the risk of wrong-way collisions by remaining vigilant, obeying traffic signs, and avoiding distractions. If you encounter a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction, pull over safely and contact local authorities immediately.
