Fond du Lac County, WI (December 16, 2024) – A young man was killed, and a teenage girl suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 45 near County Highway Y in the town of Auburn on Friday night.
The crash occurred shortly after 9:45 p.m. when a 26-year-old West Bend man, driving a pickup truck southbound, crossed the centerline and collided with an SUV driven by a 16-year-old girl from Campbellsport. Authorities with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
Emergency responders from Campbellsport and Kewaskum were already at the scene when deputies arrived. Fire crews worked to extricate the teenage girl, who had been pinned inside her SUV. She was transported via Flight for Life to Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee with severe injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pulled from his vehicle without a pulse and pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts. The teenage girl, who was wearing her seatbelt, remains in critical condition as she receives treatment for her injuries.
