Flagstaff, AZ (October 7, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Sunday afternoon on Lake Mary Road, resulting in the death of a Prescott man. The incident took place in the 4200 block of Lake Mary Road just before 1 p.m., prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Upon arrival, officers found 62-year-old Richard Alan Swendsen at the scene, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators quickly began their work to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision between Swendsen’s motorcycle and a truck.
Authorities were able to locate the driver of the truck involved in the accident, identified as 65-year-old Christopher Jon Hands from Phoenix. Upon contacting Mr. Hands, officers observed signs of impairment. Following the initial investigation, Hands was arrested and booked into the Coconino County Jail on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, failure to stop for a vehicle accident involving death, and DUI alcohol.
The Flagstaff Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash.
