Farmington, ME (January 14, 2025) – A tractor-trailer truck crash near the intersection of state routes 4 and 27 in Fairbanks village injured one person and left four children trapped inside the vehicle’s sleeper cab. The accident occurred just before 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 12, near Barker Brook.
According to a statement from Police Chief Kenneth Charles, 47-year-old Jamie Garcia of Brentwood, New Jersey, was driving a rig owned by JJS Transport of Lawrenceville, Georgia. The truck, which was carrying a load of bottled water from Poland Spring’s Kingfield plant, failed to stop at the intersection and rolled onto its side.
Emergency crews, including Farmington Fire Rescue and MaineHealth EMS, extricated a 33-year-old woman and four young children from the sleeper cab. The woman sustained minor injuries and was transported to MaineHealth Franklin Hospital for treatment. The children were evaluated at the scene but did not require further medical care.
The truck’s fuel tanks ruptured during the crash, prompting a response from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to contain the spill. Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement assisted with the investigation, and Dutch Gap Auto of Chesterville removed the heavily damaged truck and trailer on Monday.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we extend wishes for a swift recovery.
Truck Accidents in Maine
Truck accidents, especially those involving large commercial vehicles like tractor-trailers, can have devastating consequences. Rural intersections, such as the junction of state routes 4 and 27 in Farmington, are particularly vulnerable to collisions due to limited visibility and high-speed traffic.
When commercial trucks are involved, the potential for injuries and environmental hazards increases. Fuel spills, as seen in this incident, pose significant risks to local ecosystems and require immediate containment. Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection plays a critical role in mitigating these dangers.
Drivers are reminded to approach intersections with caution, particularly when operating large vehicles. Proper maintenance and adherence to safety protocols are essential to reduce the likelihood of accidents. Victims of truck accidents often face complex legal and insurance processes. Seeking professional assistance can help ensure fair treatment and compensation for injuries and damages.
