Farmington, CT (January 13, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near Exit 37 claimed the life of one person and caused the highway to be shut down in both directions for hours Sunday night. The crash occurred just after 6:00 PM, according to Connecticut State Police.
Authorities reported that 29-year-old Eloi Batista Da Silva was driving a Honda Civic on I-84 East when a Toyota Corolla collided with his vehicle for unknown reasons. The impact caused Batista Da Silva’s car to cross into the median and enter the westbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a pickup truck. Three additional vehicles were involved in the crash in the westbound lanes.
Tragically, Batista Da Silva was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other vehicles were not seriously injured. The driver of the Toyota Corolla fled the scene but was later located along with the vehicle. That driver was not injured.
The collision shut down both sides of I-84 for approximately nine hours, with the highway reopening around 3:00 AM on Monday. State police are continuing their investigation into the crash and the circumstances leading to it.
