Fair Play, SC (March 9, 2025) – A South Carolina woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash in the Upstate region on Saturday night, according to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m. at the intersection of Earles Grove Rd and S.C. 59. Authorities reported that 46-year-old Jennifer Renee Roberts, a Fair Play resident, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound on Earles Grove Rd when her vehicle collided with a 1999 Chevy S-10 pickup truck traveling south on S.C. 59.

Emergency responders arrived to find Roberts had sustained blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis, she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

A passenger in Roberts’ vehicle, as well as the driver of the S-10, who was the only occupant in the pickup, were both injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current conditions remain unknown.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details regarding potential contributing factors have been released at this time.

Our thoughts are with the family of Jennifer Renee Roberts and the injured victims, and we extend our deepest condolences to all those affected.

Deadly Intersection Accidents in South Carolina

Intersection crashes, like the tragic one at Earles Grove Rd and S.C. 59, often result in severe injuries and fatalities. These types of accidents frequently occur due to factors such as failure to yield, distracted driving, or limited visibility at crossings. T-bone or angle collisions, in particular, can lead to devastating consequences, especially when seat belts are not in use.

South Carolina has consistently reported a high number of fatal accidents, with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety emphasizing the importance of seat belt use to reduce fatal injuries. In many cases, the failure to wear a seat belt significantly increases the risk of life-threatening trauma during a collision.

For victims and families affected by serious crashes, the aftermath can be overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. Medical expenses, lost income, and long-term recovery can pose significant challenges. In cases where another party is at fault, victims may have legal options to seek compensation for their losses.
