Fair Oaks, VA (October 11, 2024) – Detectives from the Fair Oaks Police District’s Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a tragic bicycle accident that resulted in the death of an 89-year-old man. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 9 at approximately 12:14 PM at the intersection of West Ox Road and Tilton Valley Drive near Penderwood.
According to preliminary reports, Richard Albrecht, the bicyclist, was riding an electric bicycle westbound on Tilton Valley Drive. As he made a left turn onto southbound West Ox Road, he was struck by a Kia Optima traveling southbound in the right lane.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Albrecht to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Kia remained at the scene and was reported to be uninjured. Preliminary investigations indicate that speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
