Exeter, RI (October 23, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening, October 20, on Interstate 95 North in Exeter, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. At approximately 6:52 p.m., Rhode Island State Police responded to a three-vehicle crash involving a Toyota, a Honda, and a Freightliner attenuator truck.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Honda had broken down on I-95 and was being towed by the Toyota when both vehicles entered the first travel lane moving at a slow rate of speed. The Honda was subsequently struck by the front of the Freightliner truck, which was traveling at highway speed. The impact caused all vehicles to come to rest across the highway.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene, and all travel lanes were closed until approximately 10:30 p.m. The driver of the Honda, a 51-year-old man from Providence, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The two occupants of the Toyota were also taken to the hospital, but their injuries were reported as minor. Fortunately, the driver of the Freightliner truck was not injured in the crash.
