Eugene, OR (October 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Thursday morning, on River Road, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. At approximately 11:40 a.m. on October 24, the Eugene Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle collision near Van Fossen Court.
Initial investigations reveal that a Toyota Rav4 was traveling southbound on River Road when the driver lost control while attempting to negotiate a turn onto Van Fossen Court. The vehicle struck a trash can and veered into a nearby yard before coming to a stop. During this chaotic sequence of events, a female pedestrian, identified as 39-year-old Whitney Leigh Woodard, was struck by the vehicle.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported Woodard to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. The incident prompted the closure of part of River Road for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
