Amish Buggy Safety on New York Roads
Accidents involving Amish buggies are an ongoing concern in rural areas like Essex, NY, where horse-drawn vehicles share roads with motor vehicles. These incidents often occur in low-visibility areas, such as hills or curves, where drivers may not anticipate encountering slow-moving buggies.
Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution on roads frequented by Amish communities, maintaining lower speeds and staying alert, particularly in areas with limited visibility. Reflective markers and lights on buggies also play a critical role in preventing such accidents, particularly during early morning or late afternoon hours when light conditions are poor.
