Escambia County, FL (January 10, 2025) – A three-vehicle crash involving a school bus sent two students and a driver to the hospital on Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The collision occurred around 8:00 a.m. on County Rd 95A near U.S. Highway 29 during a routine student pickup.
The crash involved two Buick Veranos and an Escambia County school bus carrying 16 students. Reports indicate that the bus and one of the Buicks were stopped in the southbound lanes of County Rd 95A to pick up a student when a second Buick failed to stop, causing a chain reaction. The impact propelled the stationary Buick into the back of the school bus.
Emergency responders arrived promptly, and two students from the bus, along with one of the Buick drivers, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The second Buick driver sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No further updates on the conditions of those hospitalized have been released. The incident temporarily disrupted traffic in the area as crews worked to clear the scene and ensure the safety of all involved. School Bus Safety and Roadway Accidents in Florida
School bus-related accidents are particularly concerning as they involve the safety of children. While school buses are among the safest forms of transportation, crashes like the one in Escambia County underscore the importance of vigilance by all road users.
Florida law requires drivers to stop for school buses when their stop signs are extended, but failure to adhere to these laws remains a significant issue. Distracted driving, speeding, or failure to maintain proper distance often contribute to such incidents, posing risks to students and other road users.
For families affected by school bus accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming, even when injuries are minor. Medical care, emotional recovery, and navigating insurance claims are essential steps to address these challenges effectively.
