Escambia County, FL (January 17, 2025) – A tragic crash early this morning claimed the life of an 83-year-old man and critically injured a 62-year-old woman, both residents of Brewton, Alabama. The accident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 29, about a mile north of Champion Drive.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the individuals were traveling southbound in a pickup truck when the vehicle veered across the median into the northbound lanes. The truck subsequently left the road on the east shoulder, colliding with a tree on the front driver’s side. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its passenger side.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the driver deceased. The female passenger was transported to a nearby medical facility with critical injuries. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims as they notify family members.
