Elroy, WI (September 11, 2024) – A tragic vehicle accident claimed the life of one teenager and left another seriously injured late Sunday night, September 8 according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around midnight on County Road WW when a 17-year-old male driving a Ford F-250 lost control on a curve, leading the truck to veer off the road and overturn multiple times after striking an embankment.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s report indicated that seatbelts were not used at the time of the crash. A 16-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at 1 a.m. by the county coroner. The driver, who was severely injured, was airlifted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for treatment. Sheriff Roy Torgerson has extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
The investigation is ongoing, with initial findings pointing to speed, alcohol, and vehicle equipment issues as contributing factors in the devastating accident.
