Elkhart County, IN (October 11, 2024) – A motorcycle accident occurred on Wednesday evening, October 9 resulting in injuries to the motorcyclist. At approximately 5:51 p.m., deputies from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of a collision involving a motorcycle and a motor vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 33 and C.R. 13.
According to preliminary reports, a 2019 Honda motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy 33 when it collided with the rear of a 2004 Ford Ranger that was stopped in traffic. The impact caused significant damage to the motorcycle, and the rider, identified as 35-year-old Jorge Gonzalez of Elkhart, sustained a head injury. He was subsequently transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for medical treatment. At the time of the accident, Gonzalez was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, 57-year-old David Rheinheimer, also from Elkhart, was unharmed, and his vehicle sustained no damage from the collision. Due to the circumstances surrounding the accident, Gonzalez was unable to consent to a blood draw; therefore, law enforcement obtained a search warrant for his blood, and the results are pending.
