Egg Harbor, WI (November 21, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on WIS 42 near Sunny Point Rd in Egg Harbor on Wednesday morning, November 20, resulting in the death of a 64-year-old man from Sturgeon Bay and injuries to a 30-year-old man, also from Sturgeon Bay.

The Door County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at approximately 10:35 AM, with multiple agencies assisting in managing the scene. According to the initial investigation, the collision happened when the southbound van, driven by the 64-year-old man, crossed the center line and collided with a northbound SUV driven by the 30-year-old man.

The 64-year-old was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV was airlifted to a Green Bay hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. Both vehicles involved had no additional occupants.

The crash led to a closure of WIS 42 for approximately four hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and begin their investigation. The roadway has since reopened, but the incident remains under investigation by the Door County Sheriff’s Office.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased as well as the injured individual. We hope for a swift recovery for the SUV driver.

Two-Vehicle Crashes in Wisconsin

Two-vehicle collisions, like the one on WIS 42 in Egg Harbor, often result in devastating outcomes, particularly when high speeds or sudden lane departures are involved. Roads like WIS 42, which are critical connectors for local and regional traffic, can pose risks during times of heavy travel or adverse conditions.

Crossing the center line is a frequent cause of head-on or side-swipe collisions, often stemming from distracted driving, medical emergencies, or weather-related challenges. The involvement of multiple emergency response teams underscores the severity of this incident and the collaborative effort required to manage it.

Investigations into crashes like this typically focus on the circumstances leading up to the collision, examining factors such as driver behavior, road conditions, and vehicle maintenance. These findings are vital for identifying preventive measures to reduce similar accidents in the future.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a two-vehicle crash, seeking medical attention and understanding your options for addressing the aftermath can be critical steps in recovery.
