Edgefield County, SC (January 4, 2025) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Friday evening while walking on Mount Zion Rd near its intersection with Edgefield Rd (US 25). The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred around 7 p.m., approximately 13 miles south of Trenton.
According to Master Trooper William Bennett, a 1998 Toyota 4Runner traveling east on Mount Zion Rd struck the pedestrian near the intersection. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to Wellstar MCG Hospital in Augusta for treatment but later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured. Authorities have not yet determined the factors leading to the crash, and the incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
