East Rutherford, NJ (October 31, 2024) – A serious incident occurred this morning on Route 3 involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle after an emotionally disturbed individual ran into traffic. The event took place shortly after 10 a.m. when a 34-year-old man from Passaic was being transported by family members to Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus.
According to authorities, the family was driving in a Honda Pilot when the man forced them off the roadway. While waiting for an ambulance, he managed to break free from the back seat and ran onto the highway, where he was immediately struck by a 2011 Toyota Prius, which resulted in the vehicle’s side-view mirror being broken off.
The man sustained injuries to his back and legs but remained conscious when emergency responders arrived on the scene. Officers Cliff Shemeley and Adrian Ryznar from the East Rutherford Police Department quickly responded to the incident, demonstrating commendable professionalism under challenging circumstances.
