Eagle Mountain, UT (December 5, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle accident on State Route 73 near Cory B. Wride Memorial Highway in Eagle Mountain shut down both directions of the roadway Wednesday afternoon. Six vehicles were involved in the crash, with three requiring towing due to significant damage, including one vehicle declared a total loss. The other vehicles sustained minor damage.
According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the accident began when a white pickup truck traveling westbound attempted to pass other vehicles in a legal passing zone. However, conditions were not safe or clear, leading to a head-on collision with a smaller pickup truck carrying two occupants. Emergency responders extricated both occupants and transported them to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the initial crash, four other vehicles were involved, compounding the situation. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the report of the accident came in just before 3 p.m., and the roadway was reopened around 5 p.m. after extensive clearing efforts.
The driver of the white pickup truck was cited for multiple violations, including driving without insurance, improper passing, and failure to yield the right of way.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we wish them a speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Utah
Multi-vehicle accidents, like the one on SR-73 in Eagle Mountain, are particularly dangerous due to the chain-reaction nature of these crashes. These incidents often result in multiple injuries, property damage, and extended road closures. Factors such as driver error, poor judgment, and unsafe passing can significantly increase the likelihood of such collisions.
In Utah, busy highways like SR-73 see frequent traffic, with drivers needing to exercise extra caution when navigating passing zones. While passing may be legal in certain areas, drivers must ensure conditions are safe and visibility is clear before proceeding.
