Durham, NC (January 15, 2025) – An early morning house fire near Duke East Campus resulted in one person being injured, according to the Durham Fire Department. The blaze occurred at the corner of North Buchanan Blvd and Monmouth Ave and was reported around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene after reports of a person trapped inside the two-story home. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames and found the occupant outside the home. The individual was treated at the scene by Durham County EMS before being transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Their condition has not been disclosed.
A cat reportedly remained inside the house and could not be located by fire crews. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
