Detroit, MI (November 13, 2024) – Early Wednesday morning, a crash involving Michigan State Police troopers occurred on I-94 near Trumbull, leaving three officers with injuries. The incident happened around 12:45 AM when a 32-year-old man from Harper Woods, driving a Chevy Malibu, failed to move over for troopers who were blocking the right lane for a separate crash.
The driver struck the rear driver side of one patrol car, then rear-ended a second patrol vehicle. Fortunately, the three troopers were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and later released.
The driver, who was arrested for impaired driving, will have his case submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor for review. In the meantime, westbound I-94 was temporarily closed at M-10 as investigators worked at the scene, though the highway has since been reopened.
Impaired and Reckless Driving in Michigan
Michigan State Police frequently emphasize the dangers of risky driving behaviors, such as failing to yield to emergency vehicles and driving under the influence. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potentially devastating consequences of impaired driving, especially when combined with the failure to comply with Move Over laws.
Motorists are reminded to always slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles, both for the safety of first responders and all other drivers on the road. When impaired driving is added to the mix, the risks escalate significantly, as seen in this unfortunate incident.
