DeSoto, TX (December 19, 2024) – A tragic house fire claimed the lives of two individuals Tuesday afternoon on Canyon Ridge Dr in DeSoto. According to officials, the fire broke out at approximately 2:33 p.m., prompting a swift response from the DeSoto Fire Department and DeSoto police.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the home engulfed in flames and deemed it unsafe to enter. Neighbor Victor Gaines, one of the first to call 911, described the scene as overwhelming: “There was nothing anyone could do. You couldn’t get very close to the house. Very hot. Very fast.”. Other neighbors also attempted to assist but were unable to reach the victims due to the intensity of the fire.

Firefighters, with assistance from the Duncanville Fire Department, worked to contain the blaze. Despite extensive damage to the home, no neighboring houses were affected, and no other residents were displaced.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire. Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims during this time of loss.

House Fire Safety in Texas

House fires, like the one reported in DeSoto, are devastating events that can lead to fatalities, injuries, and significant property damage. Fires often escalate quickly, leaving little time for escape, especially when fueled by highly flammable materials.

Fire safety experts urge residents to install smoke alarms, check them regularly, and establish clear evacuation plans. Maintaining functional fire extinguishers and keeping flammable materials away from heat sources are also essential precautions.

For families affected by house fires, the emotional and financial aftermath can be overwhelming. Seeking support from local resources and professional guidance can aid in recovery, including navigating insurance claims and accessing relief programs.
