Denver, CO (October 11, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday night, October 9 resulting in the death of an off-duty Adams County deputy. Deputy Joshua Tapia was struck by a vehicle while walking in the area of Highway 52 near South Purman Avenue around 9:27 PM.
According to sheriff’s officials, the driver of the car stopped immediately after the collision, rendered aid, and called 911 for assistance. Paramedics arrived on the scene and transported Deputy Tapia to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Deputy Tapia was remembered as a cherished husband, father, and friend, having devoted over 25 years of service to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. He was also a valued member of Rampart Search and Rescue, an organization dedicated to responding to missing and stranded individuals, providing disaster assistance, monitoring hazardous weather, and offering safety education in Adams and Lincoln counties.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences in a memorial post, highlighting Deputy Tapia’s commitment to serving the community in various capacities.
