Delaware County, OK (December 3, 2024) – A fatal crash occurred early Friday morning on Scenic Highway 412, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Thomas Charles Potts and leaving his passenger, 19-year-old Jacob Aaron Cole, with serious injuries. Emergency responders from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) were called to the scene at approximately 2:16 a.m. after the Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Potts, left the roadway and crashed.

According to OHP, Potts was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, and Cole was partially ejected. Both individuals were transported to the hospital by emergency crews. Despite efforts to save him, Potts was pronounced dead at the hospital. Cole, who sustained internal injuries, is currently listed in stable condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by OHP, with officials working to determine the factors that contributed to the tragic incident.

Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Thomas Potts during this difficult time. We also hope Jacob Cole recovers fully.

Fatal Crashes in Oklahoma

Fatal crashes like the one in Delaware County are a devastating reminder of the dangers on the road, particularly when speed or loss of control is involved. Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s ongoing investigation aims to uncover the exact causes of this crash. In many cases, factors such as impaired driving, weather conditions, or speeding can lead to catastrophic outcomes, as was the case in this tragic incident.

While Potts’ death is a heartbreaking loss, it also raises awareness of the importance of vehicle safety and seatbelt use. Ejections from vehicles during crashes significantly increase the likelihood of fatal injuries. Safety experts continue to stress the importance of wearing seatbelts, regardless of the circumstances, as they are a key protective measure that can prevent ejections in the event of an accident.

Drivers in Oklahoma should remain vigilant, particularly when traveling on rural roads or highways like Scenic Hwy 412, where traffic patterns can be unpredictable and more hazardous.

Local Accident Reports urges all drivers to stay safe and follow road safety guidelines to prevent further accidents. If you or someone you know has been involved in a crash, consider consulting legal experts to understand your options.
