Decatur, IL (September 27, 2024) – A young Millikin University student was hospitalized following a pedestrian accident in Decatur on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when the 18-year-old was crossing West Main St while walking northbound.
According to the Decatur Police Department, the vehicle involved in the accident was driven by an 83-year-old man from Decatur, who was traveling east in the 1200 block of West Main when he struck the student. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries, and authorities indicated that there was no evidence suggesting he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
