Decatur, AL (December 14, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle collision on I-65 claimed the lives of two individuals Friday evening. The crash, involving three vehicles, occurred just before 5:30 p.m. near Mile Marker 342, close to Garrett Rd in the Decatur area.
According to Limestone County Coroner Mike West, the crash began when a Ford pickup truck pulling a trailer was struck from behind by a car. The car was then hit by a U-Haul truck, resulting in a fiery collision. Both fatalities were occupants of the involved vehicles. Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured in the crash.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) responded to the scene, and southbound lanes of I-65 were closed for several hours. Traffic was diverted at Exit 347 to Huntsville Brownsferry Rd while crews worked to clear the wreckage. The road closure lasted until at least 9:30 p.m., according to ALDOT.
