Daviess County, MO (December 03, 2024) – A crash occurred on I-35 northbound at Mile Marker 62, about 2 miles west of Winston, on December 2, 2024, at approximately 2:25 PM. The collision involved two vehicles and resulted in moderate injuries to a 36-year-old male driver from Grand River, IA. Emergency medical services transported the injured individual to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The incident took place when the driver of a 1998 Kenworth (vehicle #1), traveling northbound in the passing lane, began to merge into the driving lane. This maneuver caused the truck to strike the rear driver’s side of a 2012 Lincoln MKX (vehicle #2), which was traveling northbound in the driving lane. The impact caused the Lincoln MKX to spin around, facing west, while the Kenworth continued to push the Lincoln into the median. The Lincoln MKX eventually came to a stop in the median, facing west, while the Kenworth came to rest on the shoulder, facing north.
Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The driver of the Lincoln MKX, a 36-year-old male, was the only one injured in the crash and was transported by Daviess County Ambulance. The driver of the Kenworth, a 59-year-old male from South Wayne, WI, was not injured and was able to drive his vehicle from the scene.
Causes and Impact of the Collision
This crash emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining situational awareness and yielding the right of way, particularly when merging lanes. The truck driver’s failure to safely merge into the driving lane resulted in a significant impact that spun the Lincoln MKX into the median. Fortunately, the injury was described as moderate, and the driver received medical care promptly.
The investigation, led by TPR. S.W. Pliley is still ongoing with the assistance of SGT. S.J. Cool and CPL. J.J. Thompson. The cause of the accident appears to be related to unsafe lane merging, but further analysis may reveal additional contributing factors.
