Dauphin County, PA (October 8, 2024) – A road rage incident near Hersheypark escalated into a hit-and-run on Sunday night, resulting in serious injuries to a man and prompting an active search for the driver responsible. The incident took place on Park Avenue, where aggressive driving led to a confrontation between the victim and the suspect.
According to Chief Garth Warner of the Derry Township Police Department, a grainy image captured by a business surveillance camera is currently the best evidence available. “It’s a little grainy. It doesn’t give you a lot of context, but it was the best that we had to go on so far,” Chief Warner stated.
Reports indicate that the driver of a late-model Toyota Sequoia was exhibiting aggressive behavior while traveling on the two-lane Park Avenue. When traffic came to a standstill at North Third Street, the victim exited his vehicle to address the situation. Unfortunately, as soon as the victim started to get out of his car, the suspect vehicle accelerated towards him, striking him and dragging him for a short distance before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.
The suspect’s vehicle was last seen speeding south on Park Avenue, maneuvering past other vehicles in the opposite lane before making a left turn onto Chocolate Avenue. Police believe that the vehicle may have sustained front-end damage as well as possible damage to the driver’s side during the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family during this difficult time.
