Crystal Lake, IL (December 26, 2024) – A severe head-on collision on Route 14 left one person critically injured. The crash occurred near Route 31, causing significant traffic disruptions and a prolonged road closure for investigation.
Crystal Lake Police and Fire Rescue responded to the scene at approximately 3:26 p.m. Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann stated that the accident involved a 2015 Honda Civic traveling westbound on Route 14. For reasons yet to be determined, the Civic crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2007 Jeep Commander.
Fire crews reported extensive vehicle damage, with one individual trapped in the wreckage. The victim, found unresponsive and not breathing, was administered lifesaving measures before being transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry. Initial plans to airlift the victim via LifeNet helicopter were canceled due to the individual’s condition. Their current status remains unknown.
Eastbound Route 14 near Route 31 was closed for over four hours as authorities conducted a thorough investigation. The Crystal Lake Police Department is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
