Crown City, OH (January 25, 2025) – A tragic accident occurred on State Route 7 in Crown City on Thursday afternoon when an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) truck collided with a moving car while attempting to turn into a salt depot. The incident left two people dead and another injured.

According to state troopers, the ODOT truck failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making the turn, leading to a collision with the car. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. The driver of the ODOT truck was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. Unfortunately, the driver and passenger of the car were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

“Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic crash. Safety is our top priority, and we are committed to working alongside the Ohio State Highway Patrol during their investigation,” said Matt Bruning, ODOT Press Secretary.

ODOT has also initiated an internal review of the incident and has stated that personnel matters will be addressed if deemed necessary.

Vehicle Accidents on State Route 7

State Route 7 is a busy roadway in Ohio and has been the site of numerous accidents due to its high traffic volume and the mix of commercial and passenger vehicles. Tragic incidents like this highlight the critical need for drivers to exercise caution, particularly when navigating intersections and making turns on heavily traveled routes.

Failure to yield is a common factor in accidents, especially in areas with frequent commercial vehicle activity. In 2024, Ohio saw an increase in traffic fatalities, underscoring the importance of driver vigilance and adherence to traffic laws.

For those impacted by such devastating accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Medical bills, emotional trauma, and the loss of loved ones weigh heavily on the affected families. It is essential to seek support, both legal and emotional, to navigate these difficult times and pursue accountability when negligence plays a role.
