Cridersville, OH (February 27, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle crash in Duchouquet Township, Auglaize County, left three individuals injured Wednesday evening. The accident occurred around 5:12 p.m. at the intersection of Mudsock Rd and Buckland Holden Rd.

According to reports from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2008 Ford Explorer, driven by 65-year-old Christina Mathewson of Wapakoneta, was traveling southbound on Mudsock Rd when it failed to yield at the intersection. The vehicle was struck by a westbound 2023 Buick Enclave, operated by 73-year-old Ted Rupert, also of Wapakoneta.

The impact caused the Ford to veer off the west side of the roadway, overturn, and crash into a nearby church, where it came to rest embedded in the wall. The Buick came to a stop on the southwest side of the intersection.

Emergency responders, including Cridersville Fire Department and Auglaize County Emergency Management, arrived quickly at the scene to assist those injured. Mathewson was transported to Lima Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Rupert and his passenger, 67-year-old Lynette Rupert, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.

Intersection Crashes in Ohio

The intersection of Mudsock Rd and Buckland Holden Rd in Duchouquet Township is a known traffic area where visibility and right-of-way compliance play critical roles in preventing accidents.

Data from the Ohio Department of Public Safety shows that failure-to-yield crashes contribute significantly to intersection-related injuries and fatalities. In 2024 alone, Ohio recorded thousands of such incidents, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and defensive driving.

Victims of intersection crashes often face mounting medical bills, vehicle damage, and long-term recovery challenges.
