Cranberry Twp, PA (December 20, 2024) – Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Route 19 and Route 228 in Cranberry Township on Friday morning. The crash, reported at approximately 6:57 AM, involved significant front-end damage to one vehicle and required an extensive rescue operation.
Cranberry Police confirmed that one individual was trapped in a vehicle. The driver suffered chest and leg pain and reported difficulty seeing but remained conscious and alert. Rescue crews from Stations 21, 42, and 51, alongside Allegheny Station 185, arrived promptly to assist with the extrication and provide medical care.
Rescue operations were led by RQ-21, which established command at the scene. Additional units, including 51-3 and 51-5, arrived shortly after to provide support. The patient was successfully extricated from the vehicle by 7:14 AM, and Rt 19 was closed at Dutilh Rd to facilitate rescue efforts. Traffic was rerouted onto Dutilh Rd.
One patient was transported to UPMC Cranberry for further evaluation and treatment. A secondary patient was also taken to the hospital by 51-5. By 7:51 AM, rescue units and emergency responders had cleared the scene, and normal operations resumed.
