Cove Fort, UT (October 19, 2024) – A tragic wrong-way crash occurred Thursday morning on I-15 near the I-70 interchange, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and serious injuries to three others. The incident was reported around 5:15 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Utah Highway Patrol and emergency services.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a Toyota Corolla was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Dodge pickup truck that was heading north in the left lane. The driver of the Corolla, identified as 55-year-old Melissa MacDonald from North Miami, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 10-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, also lost his life in the crash. The identities of the juvenile passengers and the driver of the pickup have not been released.
Emergency responders transported the driver of the Dodge pickup and two other juvenile passengers to local hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. Fortunately, it has been reported that all individuals involved in the crash were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, which may have mitigated further injuries.
The crash caused significant traffic delays by temporarily closing all northbound lanes on I-15 near the interchange. The roadway was reopened shortly after 11 a.m. as authorities worked diligently to clear the scene and conduct their investigation.
