Cooper, MO (November 8, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred on November 7, 2024, at approximately 12:47 PM on Interstate 70 westbound at Mile Marker 102. The incident involved a vehicle, a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia, resulting in significant injuries and disruption to traffic.
Reports indicate that the Freightliner, driven by a 41-year-old female from Little Elm, TX, was traveling eastbound when it approached a mobile work zone. As the driver changed lanes from the driving lane to the passing lane, the vehicle veered off the left side of the road, leading to a loss of control. The driver overcorrected upon returning to the roadway, causing the vehicle to overturn. It subsequently struck the median cable and came to rest facing north, blocking both lanes of westbound Interstate 70. The towed unit became disconnected and ended up on its side, obstructing the eastbound lanes as well.
Emergency responders from Cooper County EMS arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance. Three individuals were reported injured in the crash. The driver, a 41-year-old female, sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Hospital for treatment. Additionally, a 2-year-old male occupant suffered moderate injuries, while a 43-year-old male occupant experienced minor injuries; both were also transported to the same hospital.
