Conifer, CO (November 24, 2024) – A devastating head-on collision on U.S. Highway 285 near milepost 234 in Conifer claimed the life of a 63-year-old woman from Shawnee on Friday evening. The crash occurred just after 6 p.m., prompting a response from Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and emergency services.
According to a CSP press release, a Dodge pickup truck traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lanes, colliding head-on with an Xcel Energy truck. The driver of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released and will be disclosed by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Two juveniles in the Dodge pickup sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The driver of the Xcel Energy truck also suffered injuries and received medical attention.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash, including whether speed, driver error, or other factors contributed to the vehicle crossing lanes. CSP is asking for witnesses to come forward with any information about the incident.
