Columbia County, WI (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Monday, October 7, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old woman and the arrest of a semi-truck driver in Columbia County. The crash took place at the intersection of County Highway A and County Highway G in the Town of Courtland.
According to Captain David Clark with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the semi-truck failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, driving directly into the path of the passenger truck. The passenger truck subsequently collided with the semi’s trailer.
The young woman, who was driving the passenger truck, was quickly assisted by citizens who witnessed the crash. They managed to extricate her from the vehicle and began performing CPR until emergency medical services arrived. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was transported by medical helicopter to a local hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck, identified as 25-year-old Jibreel Aguirre from Garland, Texas, was taken into custody at the scene. He is currently being held at the Columbia County Jail on a charge of homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Captain Clark noted that Aguirre was cooperative during the investigation.
