Colorado Springs, CO (January 29, 2025) – A 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle while walking to school on Wednesday morning at the intersection of Research Parkway and Grand Cordera Parkway.
According to local authorities, the collision occurred just after 8 a.m. The child was in a crosswalk and had the right of way when an oncoming vehicle struck him. The driver, who remained at the scene, stated that they did not see the child due to sun glare.
Police described the crash as “low speed, low injury,” and the boy did not suffer significant harm. However, his father took him to the doctor as a precaution. The driver was cited following the incident.
Law enforcement officials reminded motorists to remain cautious near school zones and intersections, especially during morning and afternoon hours when children are walking to and from school.
The investigation remains ongoing. Our thoughts are with the young student and his family.
Pedestrian Safety in Colorado
Pedestrian accidents, especially those involving children, remain a serious concern in Colorado. School zones and busy intersections pose significant risks when drivers fail to remain attentive. Sun glare, distractions, and failure to yield are common factors in pedestrian-involved crashes.
Fortunately, this incident resulted in only minor injuries, but many pedestrian accidents lead to severe outcomes, including long-term medical care and emotional trauma. Colorado law allows injured pedestrians and their families to seek compensation for damages, including medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other losses resulting from a driver’s negligence.
