Coles County, IL (October 24, 2024) – A traffic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in injuries and a temporary power outage in the area. At around 4 p.m., the Coles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 316 and County Road 1100E.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 2021 gray Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 28-year-old man from Charleston, was traveling eastbound on Route 316 when it was struck on the passenger side by a 1986 blue Dodge Ram van. The driver of the Ram, a 76-year-old man from Mattoon, was cited for failure to yield at the intersection.
The impact of the collision caused the Impala to crash into a utility pole, resulting in the pole breaking and leading to a power outage in the vicinity. Emergency responders transported the driver of the Ram to the hospital via ambulance, while the family of the Impala driver also took him to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The Coles County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
