Coles County, IL (November 27, 2024) – A fatal crash occurred Tuesday evening on County Rd 1000N, just east of the intersection with County Rd 1300E, resulting in the death of one driver and injuries to others involved. The collision, a head-on crash, involved two vehicles and led to a significant emergency response.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where one of the drivers, identified as Shaquan D. Petty, 30, of Greenville, was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger in Petty’s car was treated at the scene before being transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield and later transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for further care.
The second vehicle involved in the crash was occupied by a senior couple from Oakland, ages 74 and 68. The woman was extricated from the vehicle and both individuals were taken by EMS to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The crash occurred around 6:15 p.m., and County Rd 1000N was closed for almost five hours to allow for investigation and cleanup.
